| Synopsis |
| Camilla Mahoney has had terrible luck with men (“Losers! All of them!”). She’s dated everything from gravediggers to gangsters, but this time she’s sure she’s found the real thing: Alvin Studnitzer, a polka-playing accordion player. She invites Alvin over for a nice romantic dinner assuming her mother will be out playing bingo with her lady friends and her father will be bowling. Unfortunately, Camilla’s mother, Cleo, wants to know more about her daughter’s latest loser so when the anxiety-filled Alvin comes calling, bouquet in hand, not only does he have to deal with Cleo (“We don’t want any flowers. My daughter has allergies, you want to kill her?”) and her lady friends (“You the gravedigger?”), but also her mother’s intimidating Aunt Golda (“If she were my daughter, I’d be plenty worried!”). The modest and sensible Alvin soon discovers that he doesn’t stand a chance with Cleo and her golden gal pals. When Camilla has to run a quick errand, Alvin is left alone in the house with the meddlesome women and what follows is a comical series of misadventures. The ladies decide that Alvin resembles the police sketch of The Shoestring Strangler and, unfortunately, Alvin fits the description all too perfectly. Just when Camilla thinks she’s lost her one true love forever, Alvin surprises her with an invitation to dinner with HIS parents. Not even Cleo can stop the wedding bells from ringing in this madcap comedy! |
