I Like Art, Joseph Sorrentino’s funny homage to Abbot and Costello’s famous “Who’s On First?” Kelly’s Frank is an erudite actor with a love for art and Japanese Noh Theater. His friend Harry (Higgins) is his polar opposite, a semi-educated blue-collar type who knows nothing about Noh Theater, and can’t understand why Frank would want to go to Japan to study “no” theater. The misunderstood wordplay that director Frumkin elicits from his actors is handled with expert timing.

"...finally, a note on two shows I saw in the final weekend of the Fringe, each worth of its own particular kind of award. First was The Frankenharry Plays, three one acts written by Joseph Sorrentino, directed by Joe Canuso and performed by beloved local actors Frank X and Harry Philibosian for Theater Exile (the same team that brought last year's Fringe favorite, ).

The Frankenharry Plays are character studies, really, and all based on some sort of trick: In I Like Art, the best one, they play the devotee, X, and the schnorrer, Philibosian, at an art opening - and enter into an increasinly ridiculous Abbott and Costello-style joke based on X's desire to perform "Noh" theater.

If the pieces are trifles, they capture their characters well and they are genuinely funny. They are also convincingly performed by this engaging duo.

The program states that Sorrentino is working on more Frankenharry plays. Good. Maybe they'll end up with their own theater and we can drop in whenever we're in the mood for a visit.

Synopsis

Frank and Harry bump into each other at a gallery opening and begin a conversation about art. When Frank announces his desire to go to Japan to study Noh Theater, Harry misunderstands and is led to believe that there is no theater in Japan. The play is an homage to Abbott and Costello's "Who’s On First."
